The esophago-gastro-duodenal study (EGD) is a diagnostic test with contrast that is performed to assess the form and function of the digestive structures, and to detect abnormalities such as ulcers, tumors, or inflammation.
It is an X-ray study of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, which can be extended to the entire small intestine (transit). The patients to whom this test is oriented may present symptoms such as: difficulty in swallowing, chest discomfort, abdominal pain, regurgitation of food, vomiting or blood in the stool.
