Reconstructive Surgery
Service description
It is a set of several techniques aimed at the reconstruction of a breast that has been removed by cancer or other diseases.
The methods for breast reconstruction can be with breast prosthesis, with tissue expansion plus prosthesis, with muscle-cutaneous pedicled flaps, or with free flaps. These are more complex techniques with which the breast is reconstructed using only skin and fat from the abdominal region (DIEP) and from the gluteal region (S-GAP).
In general terms, it is possible to state that breast reconstruction using the patient's own tissues usually provides superior results in terms of the texture of the reconstructed breast. This option avoids, at the same time, possible side effects associated with the use of prosthetic implants, such as infections and capsular contractures.
