What is the Pain Unit?
At Affidea, our Pain Unit is a specialized, multidisciplinary service that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and relief of chronic pain, with the goal of improving our patients' quality of life. This service is designed to treat a wide variety of pain, including neck pain, back pain, joint pain, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, oncologic pain and headaches.
Common pathologies treated:
Chronic low back pain: persistent pain in the lower back, with a prolonged evolution.
Chronic cervicalgia: Constant pain in the back of the neck, with a long evolution.
Chronic pain: Osteoarticular or neurogenic pain that persists for a long period.
Fibromyalgia: generalized pain and muscle fatigue.
Neuropathic pain: pain caused by alterations in the nerves.
Oncologic pain: Pain related to cancer and its treatments.
Headaches: Recurrent headaches, such as migraines or tension headaches.
Common reasons for consultation:
Chronic pain: Such as low back, neck or joint pain that does not respond to conventional treatments.
Pre-anesthetic assessment: Evaluation prior to surgery to assess the risks associated with anesthesia.
Diagnostic tests used:
Simple radiology: Images of bones and joints to detect injuries or deformities.
CT (Computed Axial Tomography): Detailed images of the body, with or without contrast, for a more accurate diagnosis.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): We offer detailed images without radiation, useful for evaluating soft tissues and internal structures.
Electromyography: evaluates nerve and muscle function, detecting alterations in nerve conduction.
Treatments offered:
Oral analgesia: Use of pain-relieving medications, selected specifically according to the condition.
Parenteral analgesia: Application of analgesics directly to the area where the pain originates.
Rhizolysis: Procedure that acts on the nerves that transmit pain, reducing their conduction capacity.
