What is nursing?

Nursing is a fundamental discipline within the healthcare system that focuses on the comprehensive care of people. This field encompasses the care of people of all ages, from children to the elderly, in different states of health: healthy, sick, recovering or in critical situations.

In addition to direct care, nursing includes health promotion, disease prevention and care of the disabled or critically ill. Nursing professionals also have essential roles such as advocating for patient rights, creating safe environments, participating in research and health policy, managing patient care, and continuously improving their education to provide quality care.

What specialties are there in nursing?

To respond to the different needs of our patients, we have nurses specialized in multiple areas:

• General Nursing: Addresses the care of patients in different contexts, both in primary care and hospital.

• Pediatric Nursing: Specialized in the care of children and adolescents, from prevention to treatment of diseases of these ages.

• Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing: Focuses on reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal care.

What are the functions that a nurse performs?

• Direct Care: They monitor and care for patients, ensuring the administration of treatments and management of their daily needs.

• Management and documentation: They plan and monitor each patient's care, recording their progress to adjust treatment as needed.
