WHY DOES MIGRAINE OCCUR?

If the answer is yes, you may be suffering from a food-related migraine due to DAO (DiAminoOxidase) enzyme deficiency.

Every day we consume a series of foods, such as cheese, sausages, strawberries, pineapple, bananas, fish, seafood, chocolate, eggplant, tomatoes, spinach, wine, champagne... which contain a molecule called histamine. The intestine is responsible for metabolizing and eliminating histamine with the help of the enzyme DAO.

When there is a deficit of DAO enzyme activity, the excess histamine is not eliminated and accumulates in the blood and can cause migraines and other symptoms such as atopic dermatitis, tachycardia, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, overweight, contractures or tiredness.

DAO enzyme activity may be reduced by genetic factors, by the use of inhibitors (alcohol and many drugs) or by pathological situations (e.g. intestinal postoperative period, etc.).

WHAT IS THE DAO TEST FOR THE DETECTION OF MIGRAINES?

It is a blood test, which can be used to identify whether a case of migraine has a food origin.

To do this, the level of the enzyme DAO, produced by our body and responsible for metabolizing in the intestine a molecule called histamine, present in some foods, is determined.
