  • "We have the ambition to further strengthen our clinical team and develop new radiology subspecialties that could become a reference in the near future, as we are currently in the breast area," says Theo Kravvas, CEO of Affidea Spain.

Madrid, October 17, 2022-. On October 5, Affidea Grup Manchón, a network of diagnostic imaging centers in Barcelona, celebrated its 40th anniversary at a professional event that paid tribute to the consolidated trajectory of the company, a reference in diagnostic imaging in Barcelona, and which included the scientific session "From tradition to innovation", in which several doctors from the company addressed issues of different specialties, presenting the latest innovations.

Affidea Grup Manchón has a long history and experience in radiology in Spain. The Manchón legacy dates back to 1934, when Dr. Fernando Manchón Azcona, a pioneering radiologist in Barcelona, opened the first radiology practice in the city. The tradition continued through the following generations, with the opening in 1982 of the first Dr. Manchón diagnostic center.

With the aim of continuing to offer excellence in radiology, in the 1990s the third generation of the family, represented by Dr. Pilar Manchón and her brother Antonio Manchón, took over the company. Finally, in 2019 Grup Manchón was acquired by Affidea Group, Europe's largest provider of diagnostic imaging, outpatient care and cancer treatment services.

Affidea Grup Manchón, with Dr. Pilar Manchón as Regional Medical Director, offers a wide range of advanced diagnostic imaging, specifically magnetic resonance and mammography with tomosynthesis, scanner, bone densitometry and conventional radiology. It also has a team of 20 subspecialists in different areas of diagnostic imaging and performs more than 125,000 studies a year.

It has five centers: three in Barcelona (Avenida Tibidabo, Balmes and Meridiana), in addition to those located in Sant Cugat and Hospitalet.

Theo Kravvas, CEO of Affidea Spain, states that "we are very pleased to be present at this important milestone for Grup Manchón as partners. The partnership between the historic Manchón Group and Affidea was a strategic decision for us, because it gave us the opportunity to support the group's growth into the future. Our commitment to development was supported with important investments in medical technology, including magnetic resonance imaging, advanced mammography equipment, ultrasound, among others.

Kravvas refers to the future by pointing out that "the next steps are the full development of digital tools that will offer our patients a new experience and also help our clinical partners to have access to all the clinical information they need. At the same time, we have the ambition to further strengthen our clinical team and develop new radiology subspecialties that can become a reference in the near future, as we are currently in the breast area. We face this exciting future to achieve growth together by combining the strengths of Grup Manchón and Affidea".

For her part, Dr. Pilar Manchón, Regional Medical Director of Affidea Grup Manchón and expert in breast cancer diagnosis, declares that "our history is closely linked to the history of radiology and to that constant innovation with the appearance in the 70s of the CT scan, in the 80s of ultrasound and later in the 90s of MRI. In the 90's my brother Antonio and I joined the company. Both of us have continued with the tradition of personalized patient care and have been pioneers in all the latest technologies that have been presented. In 2019 we begin a new era accompanied by a great company, Affidea".

Dr. Manchón adds that "this alliance guarantees that we will continue to serve patients and remain leaders in diagnostic imaging in a globalized environment, contributing our values of tradition and innovation, values that all of us who have been involved in this project carry in our DNA. We could not be more satisfied with this celebration, which has allowed us to thank all those who in one way or another have placed their trust in our diagnostics over the years".

This event is in addition to the one held on Sunday, October 2 with all Affidea Grup Manchón employees, who were the first to be honored for their anniversary.
