Lung cancer: early diagnosis
World Lung Cancer Day is celebrated on August 1 and aims to raise awareness about the serious impact of this disease on the global population.
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in men and women and has the highest mortality rate worldwide.
The severity of lung cancer is largely due to late diagnosis, at an advanced stage of the disease, which limits treatment options and is therefore associated with lower survival rates.
In the fight against this disease, it is especially important to avoid smoking, its main risk factor, and to promote early diagnosis, which allows for more effective treatment or even a cure.
In recent years, studies have been conducted that show that lung cancer screening reduces lung cancer mortality and overall mortality, with low-dose chest CT (computed tomography) being one of the key methods.
Currently, low-dose CT scans can be used to examine the lungs and enable early detection of suspicious findings with a radiation dose equivalent to six months of exposure to natural environmental radiation.
At Affidea, we have the necessary equipment to perform these examinations, artificial intelligence solutions, and qualified professionals, namely radiologists with European certification in lung cancer screening.
