Lower radiation CT scans at Affidea diagnostic centers

A very powerful “weapon” in the hands of doctors is computed tomography, an extremely important examination that contributes to early, valid, and accurate diagnosis and, therefore, to the treatment of millions of patients worldwide.

As is well known, CT scans rely on radiation absorbed by the human body and this, combined with their increasing use as a diagnostic tool, has prompted the European Union to issue a special directive. This directive, which has also been implemented in our country, addresses the need to manage and optimize radiation in CT scans in order to ensure the lowest dose for patients while achieving the best diagnostic results.

The Dose Excellence program at Affidea Group diagnostic centers

It is precisely the essence of this directive that the Affidea Group puts into practice, as it exclusively implements the Dose Excellence initiative in its diagnostic centers, achieving an absolute balance between CT radiation and diagnostic image quality.

It should be noted that the main objective of Dose Excellence is to perform CT scans with the lowest possible dose of CT radiation for the patient, while maintaining the quality of the diagnostic image for most clinical indications. In other words, patients who choose Affidea centers receive the lowest CT radiation without compromising the effectiveness of the examination.

How low CT radiation is applied

This is a highly successful program based on four pillars: First, the Group's staff, who are constantly trained in all technological developments so that they can make the most of the state-of-the-art equipment with which Affidea centers are equipped. At the same time, the program and its performance are monitored and evaluated at all times. This allows new actions to be planned immediately and corrective measures to be implemented when necessary. The fourth pillar, which is equally important to the success of Dose Excellence, is the cooperation of all the specialties of the centers' staff to obtain the best possible result.

In this way, thanks to the capabilities of the modern digital tools available to the Affidea Group, we can record the data from each examination using special software, which is collected centrally with the help of a Business Intelligence tool, which monitors CT radiation in real time. Continuous monitoring and analysis of the data allows us to optimize the radiation dose of CT scans and, therefore, optimize the safety of those being examined.

Dose Excellence has been implemented since 2014 and is now used in 13 Affidea Group countries in Europe, with 120 connected CT systems, and has won multiple awards from the medical community. In fact, it was recently awarded 5 stars by the European Society of Radiology (ESR).

Today, anyone who needs to undergo a CT scan with the lowest possible radiation dose can do so at any Affidea diagnostic center with maximum safety, thanks to Dose Excellence: that is, receiving the optimized CT radiation dose, always with the best results for our body and our doctor.
